Dr. Ottavio Nepa of Woodland Park, NJ is offering parents, students and teachers free backpack screenings and education on what he calls the “Backpack Predicament”.

“There is an epidemic going on that is affecting many students and I want to do something about it,” Dr. Nepa says. “The Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that 7353 emergency room visits each year result from injuries related to backpacks. Realize that number represents only those children that actually needed emergency room care because the pain was so bad. The actual number of children with neck, back and shoulder problems due to backpacks is far greater. They also reported that backpack-related injuries are up 330% since 1996. This is an important issue and one that needs to be addressed."

Can those with osteoporosis get chiropractic care?
Of course. When developing a care plan, we consider the unique circumstances of each practice member. There are many ways we can adjust the spine. The chiropractic method we select will be best suited to your age, size and unique situation.
Are aches and pains good or bad?
While aches or pains may be unpleasant, they're merely warning signs. As a Woodland Park chiropractor, I see this all the time. The pain is not the problem! It just means a limitation has been reached and something needs to change. That's when we get to work correcting the underlying cause.
